Melissa Sanborn

Commissioner
Born in Spokane, Washington, Melissa Sanborn spent much of her childhood touring the young wine industry of Washington with her wine-loving parents. After graduating from Western Washington University with a degree in chemistry, she moved to Moscow, Idaho and worked as an analytical chemist. In 2005 she began her graduate career at Washington State University, studying sensory science and enology. In 2007 Melissa and her husband, Mike, bought an abandoned vineyard in Juliaetta, Idaho, and have since expanded the vineyard to 20 acres. They opened Colter’s Creek Winery in 2008, and have been enjoying growing grapes and making wine in Idaho ever since. When not tending to vines, Melissa escapes to the mountains to ski, climb, and backpack.
